Gardening is a great way to get active and ease stress but it can be strenuous. A strong core and good flexibility are key to ensuring gardening remains a pleasure. Try adding some of these exercises and stretches to your workout routine to keep strong and flexible.

A warm sunny position

• A brisk walk will get your blood flowing and muscles loose before you start.
• Protect your knees with a padded kneeler while you remove those pesky weeds. It’s also good to be mindful of your position, try kneeling with one knee on the ground and the other up, switching sides regularly.
• Alternate between pruning and planting, by adjusting your posture frequently you will avoid cramps and reduce the risk of repetitive motion injuries.
• Keep your pot close to your body when lifting and bend at the hips.
• Water yourself! It’s important to keep hydrated especially on a hot day.
• Tending your blooms is a great workout so don’t forget to stretch just as you would in the gym.
