Join us to support your local Samaritans
We are very proud to be supporting the annual Samaritans Run on Saturday 29th June 2019 at Easthampstead Park Community School.
This very popular local run is an important fundraising event with all profits raised directly benefiting our local Samaritans branch. Samaritans offer a confidential listening service to those having thoughts of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. Our local branch is fully operated by local volunteers and offers support to our callers 365 days per year.
We invite all members to join in, with a choice of a 5K or 10K routes this is a perfect event for beginners and experienced runners. Children and grandchildren can join in the fun.
Our team have put together top tips to help you go the distance
Get a programme
speak to the wellness coaches and make a plan to achieve your goal. Including the right mix of steady runs and interval training will help you build up the kms.
Create a playlist
Research shows that listening to your favourite tunes whilst exercising will motivate you, improve your endurance and help you to maintain a consistent pace.
Track progress
Track your distance, pace, elevation and calories burned with your smartphone. Apps such as Strava and Nike Run are great for recording progress.
Mix it up
Cross-training is a great way to boost your fitness, keep your workout plan interesting and give your running legs a chance to recover. Furthermore, to reduce the risk of injury or alignment issues, it’s essential to strengthen your core muscles. These muscles will quickly fatigue when you run if they are untrained. Why not try a TRX or Holistic Core class.
Train with a buddy
Having someone to talk to about your training keeps it interesting and makes you feel accountable. When you first start running, you should run at conversational pace, so having a friend to chat to whist running will help you to maintain a steady level of effort.
