Training is vital to counteract muscle deterioration and stiffer, less flexible joints.
Last month we focused on traditional training exercises to isolate muscles and build strength. This month the focus is on functional training. Functional training builds on this by focusing on movement pattern and building strength and mobility in ways that directly help you perform the actions of your daily life more effectively and efficiently.
The exercises in functional training focus on multi-joint because most everyday movements and activities require the use of multiple joints and muscle groups. The aim is to maintain your strength and range of movements for as long as possible to prevent injury and allow you to continue all activities you enjoy.
As you work through the exercises with Ginny, focus on your core and posture. Good proprioception is vital for balance and movement.
