Exercise to live your best life. The right exercise will boost your energy levels, protect your body from injury and increase your range of movement so that you age well, and the great news is that it is never too late to get started.
Your gym sessions should focus on the following four key areas.
Flexibility and mobility – can you touch your toes? To maintain muscle function and joint health include a Stretch and Flex in your weekly routine.
Core and posture – improve your balance and stability by training the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips, and abdomen. Our Yoga and Body Balance classes will help you to build a strong core to support your body.
Strength – protect your body against injury, increase bone density and support your frame with a weekly strength circuit. The gym team have put together a complete strength workout using the resistance kit in our main gym.
Cardio – a daily 30-minute workout will get your heart rate up and improve your cardiovascular and respiratory system. Throughout the summer, a brisk walk is the perfect choice – walking is the new superpower, however if the weather is less favourable join us in the gym for a swim or a session on the bike or cross-trainer.
Try this fantastic starter workout from the David in the gym team. The workout uses fixed resistance kit which allows you to increase your strength. Once you have achieved a basic level of control you can move onto functional strength training (hint – see our July Newsletter!)
