Roll with it
Kevin Jones is a well-known Nirvana and Pulse 8 member who’s really up for a challenge. Or many challenges. His latest is a 970 mile cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just 9 days!
Recovering from hard training
A vital element in Kevin’s training is active recovery and he regularly uses “self-myofascial release” – a type of soft tissue massage, which incorporates stretching and massage of the connective tissues. Kevin regularly uses a foam roller, both at the gym and at home.
Foam roller recovery isn’t just for cyclists. It’s highly recommended for any sports training, including swimming and is now a required element in many competitive swim training programmes for youngsters.
What rolling does for you
The roller’s gentle and sustained pressure on the soft tissue can soften and lengthen the fascia, breaking down adhesions or scar tissue between skin, bone and muscle. It’s an excellent way to reduce the pain and soreness caused by training hard. And if you find yourself without a roller to hand – use a tennis ball!
Find out how
We recommend Nirvana’s Rock n Roller class as the perfect way to find out how to use a foam roller.
Kevin also recommends taking full advantage of the one-to-one guidance sessions with the wellness coaches who will be able to give you specific guidance for your sport, training or activity.
