A healthier, fitter you
Achieve without injury
Whether you’re just starting out or already working out regularly, getting fitter is about taking on a bit more exercise, without getting an injury. As the better weather makes it easier to enjoy the outdoors you might be getting back to some golf, setting out on your bike or doing the gardening. You might even be toying with the idea of taking up a charity run. But with the increase in activity comes the risk of injury. So how do we enjoy more exercise without the risk of getting hurt? The answer is “recovery”.
You’ve got to relieve
Recovery is any relieving, relaxing or restoring activity which addresses the effects of any physical exertion. Make recovery a part of your exercise regime and you’ll be able to carry on for longer and hurt less. There are a multitude of recovery activities available at Nirvana both in the spa and in the Wellness Suite.
Rock N Roller
Self-Myofascial Release (Foam Rolling) is a type of soft tissue massage which incorporates stretching and massage of the connective tissue (fascia). The muscle and fascia make up the myofascial system. Adhesions, where the fascia and muscle become stuck together, may be caused by injury, a lack of stretching and disuse, Adhesions may result in pain, soreness and a reduced range of movement. Rock N Roller involves using gentle and sustained pressure on the soft tissue (muscle) and traction to the fascia to soften and release the fascia.
Stretch & Flex
The Stretch & Flex class is designed to increase flexibility and range of movement around joints. It will improve circulation and posture, help relax the body and reduce stress.
Thermal Suite
Contrast therapy is not just a peculiar Scandinavian practice involving a leap from the sauna into an ice lake. The principal benefits are scientifically recognised and much more enjoyable than you might think. Going from one extreme temperature to another increases blood flow and oxygenation of cells, even purging the body of toxins. It’s nowhere near as shocking as you might imagine and is good for skin, muscles, joints and lungs.
Celestial Pool
Have you tried our Celestial Floatation pool? An amazing 50 tonnes of Dead Sea salts, including 21 essential minerals, are dissolved in water from our own underground source, heated to a comfortable 35℃. Floatation is highly regarded as a remedy for stiff and painful joints and regular sessions can help you enjoy a more mobile lifestyle.
Surf Pool
Hydrotherapy massage is a fantastic remedy for many aches and pains after prolonged exercise. Tired feet, a stiff neck, tight calves or lower back pain can be eased away with powerful warm water jets.
Take up your own challenge
One way to up your exercise level is to take on a sporting challenge – a charity run or cycle ride. Setting specific goals which require training and focus can bring a whole new world of incredibly positive health benefits, both mental and physical.
